Serralunga Castle: what's to know

Slender and majestic, Serralunga d'Alba Castle dominates one of the most beautiful and unchanged villages of the Langhe, surrounded by the hills of the great wines. Considered one of the best preserved examples of noble castles of fourteenth century in Piedmont, it is unique in Italy.

Its construction dates back to the years between 1340 - the year in which Pietrino Falletti received the feud of Serralunga - and 1357.

The circumstances of not having been the subject of major military events and never having been transformed for residential purposes have left it intact in its original structure as a medieval stronghold.

More than a military role, however, the castle played a function of control over the production activities of the area, as demonstrated by its verticality, intended to emphasize the prestige of the Falletti family. Since 1949 it belongs to the Italian State and pertains to the Regional Museum Hub of Piedmont.

Management is currently entrusted to the Barolo & Castles Foundation, which - in pool with the Committee for the Promotion of Langhe and Roero Castles - was awarded the tender issued by the Regional Directorate for the Cultural and Landscape Heritage of Piedmont.
