Electric bikes
First of all: electric bikes (or pedal-assisted bicycles) are not mopeds, but real bikes that "add power" to your legs. When the sensor detects that you're pushing on the pedals, it activates the motor.
You can adjust the motor to add 25% (Power 1), 50% (Power 2), 100% (Power 3) or 150% (Power 4) of the force you're applying. The more assistance you use, the more battery you consume.
Usually you set maximum assistance when you're in a hurry or when the climb is very steep. Otherwise you find a balance between effort, speed, and battery life.
The great thing about e-bikes is that you can enjoy the pleasures of a bicycle ride (silence, ability to stop when you want, freedom of movement) without necessarily being a champion. Thanks to the motor, you can get help when you can't do it anymore (because you've gone too far or because the climb is too steep), but you still get exercise.
You can go to work in a distant office without arriving drenched in sweat, you can cover a lot of ground in reasonable time (you can maintain an average of 20-25km/h), you can visit hilly or mountainous areas even if you're not a trained cyclist.
It depends. Roughly, the range of a charge can vary from 80km to 120km. However, it depends a lot on how you use the assistance (if you always pedal with maximum assistance you consume more), on the weight of the person pedaling, and on the type of terrain (in hills or mountains the range will be lower).
You'll find bikes suitable for the proposed routes at each of our rental points in our various destinations.
The electric bikes in our fleets don't recharge while you pedal. The batteries are recharged with a charger using a normal electrical outlet, like a phone.
If we propose a very long ride or if we understand that running out of battery could compromise your enjoyment, we'll let you take the charger: you can charge the battery while taking a break to eat or drink something at our tourist points of interest.
A full recharge costs about 10-15 Euro cents. It takes 5-6 hours to fully recharge the bike, but an "emergency" recharge can add about twenty kilometers of range in one hour.
If you notice you've run out of battery, you can stop at one of the points of interest indicated on our app and while you relax, ask the owner if you can recharge the bike so you can do a few more kilometers.
No, the e-bike is not for the lazy!
Usually those who think this are drivers, motorcyclists or "very sporty" cyclists. The e-bike allows everyone (even those who are not trained) to pedal even in mountain or hilly areas. Those who are not trained would otherwise have gone by motorized vehicle, it's less lazy to pedal with assistance...
With an e-bike you pedal, you exercise. It's pleasant exercise, not exhausting and also rewarding!
Finally, the e-bike is ideal for couples where one is a cyclist and the other is not. One can make it 100% with their own legs, the other gets help from the electric motor and it's a way to share the passion for cycling and spend time together outdoors.
The trekking e-bike is the bike suitable for pedaling on paved roads or short stretches of dirt roads.
The electric mountain bike instead has a tread width and suspension that make it suitable for unpaved roads and trails. eMTBs can be front or full type. In the first case only the front suspension is present while the full bike has dual suspension.
Which to choose? It depends on the type of route you want to do. If the route is on paved roads, simple secondary roads without off-road sections, a trekking bike is definitely perfect.
Beyond the aspect related to the type of road surface, the two types of bikes also differ in the type of position required for pedaling: the mtb (electric) requires a more sporty forward position while usually the trekking bike allows you to have a straighter back and sit more comfortably.
Rentals
On our site you can:
- choose where to cycle
- book the bikes you need for your date of interest
If the bikes are available you'll receive a confirmation email with a request for deposit payment.
We'll try to respond to your request as soon as possible (generally in less than 12 hours) but it might take some time especially for complex requests or if we have other bookings pending.
The deposit serves to 'block' the bikes for you and your group. Here's what can happen.
The group doesn't show up and doesn't notify: the deposit is not refunded and is not valid for another new future booking.
The booking is cancelled by phone or email with at least 48 hours notice: the deposit paid remains valid and can be used to organize a new rental on another date in the same destination or in another territory where BikeSquare is present.
In case of rain: we suggest those who have booked to monitor the weather in the days before the rental and if the forecast predicts rain we can talk 48 hours before and the people who handle bookings will give you indications on new dates so as not to lose the deposit.
No. You can choose the route to do on the same day of the rental.
You can do the route independently with your friends or family, at your own pace and with your stops. You can download the app and follow the route without needing a cycling guide. Our routes are simple and you don't need to have particular skills or preparation (you just need to know how to ride a bike).
If instead you want to do a tour with a guide you can request this service when booking the bikes. In this case with the guide you can agree on the route most suited to your expectations and desires.
Yes, you can request the delivery and pickup service at your hotel. The service is paid. Unfortunately we can't always guarantee this service. It can happen that the number of bookings prevents us from organizing delivery effectively.
On our routes there are restaurants, wineries or points where you can taste typical products. These points are indicated both on the site and on our app.
These are points that we recommend and that you can book directly. You'll pay for these experiences (lunches, visits or tastings) directly to them. You only pay us for the e-bike rental. In some cases instead we propose experiences, these are ready-made proposals that you can purchase directly from us because we have an agreement with the other parties.
