Pieve di Santo Stefano di Sorano - Filattiera

The Church of Sorano has been for centuries one of the most important churches in the ancient Diocese of Luni. The church, strategically built in the vally bottom, has a basilica structure with quadrangular tower, entirelly made of river pebbles. The building dates back to 11th and 14th century (with subsequent modifications) but stands on an older church from the early Middle Ages, at the centre of an archaeological area of great importance as evidenced by the two Stele Statues found here and still kept inside. 

After a long neglect the church has been recently renovated and reopened for worship on the occasion of the Jubilee of 2000.
