Il Malepasso (panorama spot)

This road was the only one connecting Avellino with the villages of Alta Irpinia, until the mid-1900s.

In the early 1800s, these hairpin bends and woods were called the 'Malepasso' due to their dangerousness. The area, in fact, was infested with brigands of unprecedented ferocity.

Today, however, at this exact spot, you can stop to observe a marvellous panorama and contemplate the beauty of a Maritime Pine that, although bent by the wind, continues to keep company with the many cyclists who pass along this road.

In front of you you have Monte Vergine and the Parthenio Park area, while below you can see the villages of Atripalda, Avellino, Mercogliano and even Summonte.
