Museum of Rate: what's to know

MUSEUM OF BADGER AND POSTAL HISTORY

The Museum of Rate and Postal History was founded in 1991, in two historical buildings of the medieval borough of Cornel. The Museum is articulated in four exhibition spaces, each of which develops and deepens the postal story and the history of the Rate family. Here are preserved numerous documents related to their activity in the management of postal services and, in general to postal history, including a 1840 letter ranked with the world's first issued stamp, the famous Penny Black.
The museum rooms are so subdivided :
Space 1 : room of the 'family tree of the house Rate, in which the documentation on the family is present and some examples of the first stamps and some guides for travellers are visible.
Space 2 : room dedicated to the complex organisation of the postal service and the transport of letters and passengers, in which it is possible to see some postal cards of 1700-1800, used by postal couriers, as well as by the first tourists.
Space 3 : hall dedicated to the figures of the literati Bernardo and Torquato Rate, l 'author de "La Jerusalem liberated" and a collection of objects used for the transmission of information, such as the leather bisaccia for the delivery of letters, the telegraph, the first phones and a handheld computer model created by Olivetti in the nineties.
Space 4 : Sala Mercatorum, on the porticated route, exhibition space dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
