After admiring the splendid panorama, proceed towards Rocca Priora, a charming town of castles. Multi-day Cycling Tour, a unique and unrepeatable experience that crosses the Appia Antica Park all the way to the shores of the Mar Tirreno along the oldest road in the world, the Regina Viarum.
From the Baths of Caracalla in Rome to the Castelli Romani
The 5-stage e-bike tour starts in Rome at the Terme di Caracalla, following the ancient Roman road known as the Appia Antica, on cobblestones and basalt stones, passing by tombs, churches, mausoleums, villas, and milestones, eventually reaching Santa Maria delle Mole. It's like cycling through an open-air museum on an endless bike path. At times, the route merges with the Via Appia Nuova, which overlaps with the ancient one, a perfect example of the historical stratification of the area. You'll reach the Castelli Romani passing through Albano, Genzano, Ariccia, Nemi, Lanuvio on a partly dirt and ancient path that follows the terrain's orography from Genzano to Lanuvio. The view over Lake Albano and the surrounding hills will leave you speechless. The Castelli Romani are rich in historical sites and ancient villages that testify to their importance over the centuries.
Colli Albani and Agro Pontino
The second stage of the e-bike tour along the Appia Antica leads to the Colli Albani passing through the towns of Albano Laziale and Lanuvio. The route through the Colli Albani, a hilly area rich in vineyards, olive groves, and medieval villages, is particularly evocative. Along the way, you can admire numerous archaeological sites and historical monuments, such as ancient catacombs, ruins of Roman villas, and funerary mausoleums. Continuing with the e-bike, you'll reach the Agro Pontino area towards Cisterna di Latina. This section of the route is more challenging but full of charm and character. The effort will be rewarded by the beauty of the Lazio countryside and the tranquility of the places. The route along the Appia Antica reconnects to the Via Appia Nuova, passing through Borgo Faiti, where a visit to Foro Appio is recommended, already described by Horace in his satires, and crossing various milestones you'll arrive in joyful Terracina with its historic center.
From Terracina to the Mar Tirreno
The third and fourth stages of the e-bike tour along the Appia Antica reach Terracina, where you'll find the temple of Jupiter Anxur, a particular testimony to the city's ancient history. The ride continues on ancient limestone cobblestones reaching the Appia Nuova through the towns of Monte San Biagio and Fondi. From Fondi, you'll travel perhaps the best-preserved stretch of the Appia Antica, crossing a Roman bridge, tombs, and milestones (pay attention to a closed wooden gate that needs to be crossed with your e-bike). There are multiple panoramic views of the Mar Tirreno along this stretch, and if desired, you can stop at the beach to relax listening to the waves while enjoying local fish-based dishes.
From Fondi to Formia
The last stage of the e-bike tour reaches Itri, a picturesque medieval village where a visit to the medieval castle is recommended. Cycling along narrow streets allows you to immerse yourself in history, transporting your mind and imagination back in time. After visiting with e-bikes, continue on the Appia Antica towards beautiful Formia with its promenade and historic center perched on a hill, its historic sites, and characteristic views. The tour from Rome to Formia along the Appia Antica concludes; for the return journey, taking the train is recommended. In the center of Formia is a train station where you can catch a train every hour back to Rome Termini in 1h30.

This path allows you to move from one ebike rental point to another, so that you have at your disposal not only the routes and GPS tracks starting from Chiusano San Domenico, but also those with origin at the Avellino cycle station in Contrada San Lorenzo, Atripalda.
This route can be cycled either one way or the other, depending on where you are. The GPS track is a little over 16 km long and takes about 2 hours to cover if it is travelled from Atripalda to Chiusano San Domenico; it will take about 1 hour if it is travelled downhill, i.e. from Chiusano San Domenico to Atripalda.
The road does not present any type of difficulty, so it can be tackled with all types of e-bike available for hire: city, trekking and full suspension e-MTB. By following the GPS track, you will avoid passing along the busier Strada Statale 7, also known as Vecchia Ofantina, preferring an itinerary that is more pleasant to follow and with less risk.
The following description was created assuming departure from the Atripalda rental point, at the Avellino cycle station. If, on the other hand, you depart from the Chiusano San Domenico hire point, all the information remains valid, inverting - naturally - their nature.
Leaving the Ciclostazione Avellino behind you, you only need to pedal your e-bike for 1 km to leave the bustling traffic of the city of Atripalda and take the SP5 after 200 metres uphill.
For almost 4 km you can enjoy the beauty of pedalling on a road that is not at all difficult, made up of pleasant ups and downs with small, short climbs followed by short downhill stretches. Although it has been replaced by the faster and more convenient motorway link, this road connects Atripalda and Serino and, therefore, may be affected by vehicular traffic: keep to the right in single file and pay attention.
After 3.7 km the navigator will ask you to turn left onto SP17. Here begins a 2 km climb, with no steep slopes. At the end of the climb, you will enjoy a beautiful view of the Sabato valley and some magnificent vineyards. It is here, from these rows of vines, that some of Irpinia's finest wines are obtained, especially Fiano di Avellino. If you feel like it and if you have time, explore the surroundings in search of the most beautiful landscapes.
A beautiful descent will take you first to Sorbo Serpico and then to Salza Irpina, where you will have to face a short but steep climb to exit the town and turn right. For 500 metres you will ride on the SS7, with the village of Salza Irpina on your right, before turning left onto a secondary road with zero traffic. Relax and enjoy the pleasant climb (2 km) on your pedal-assisted bike. You will cross a dense and lush forest of beech and chestnut trees while maintaining a steady and decidedly rideable gradient. When you pass under an overpass and the forest gives way to a splendid panorama, it means that the climb is almost over. On your left you will have a wide view of Irpinia, with the Partenio Park, Montevergine and many small villages; on your left vineyards, countryside and the beauty of Monte Tuoro.
At the end of the road, turn right to join the SP39, which will take you to Chiusano San Domenico. When you come to a nice view (unfortunately transennined due to a landslide when this information sheet was written), it will mean you are entering the village. Go straight on, past Borgo Ripa (the old historic centre of Chiusano San Domenico, home of the journalist Carlo Nazzaro), the town square) and you have arrived. On the right, you will notice the orange sign of Reveló, the bike and rental point in Chiusano San Domenico of Ciclostazione Avellino.
Right in the heart of the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark, a short workable route in half a day between the Lake of Pergusa and the Hill of Cozzo Matrice, site of an ancient indigenous settlement with the remains of a vast sacred enclosure dedicated to Demeter (Ceres) and Kore-Persephone (Proserpine. Landscapes breathed at 360 ° on almost the entire island and unusual natural aspects for the Sicily of the grain. It is part of the Visitor center site of the rental and it is inert to us towards Cozzo matrix passing through the many villas of the Village Pergusa. Reaching the top, the site of the vast archaeological area, lies along the main path, perfectly cycling on a dirt road to reach the area of the sacred enclosure with the remains of the temples and the two caves that for the ancient inhabitants of Sicily were the entrance to the Ade. The ancient hall of the Misterical Meetings, the "Leske" from which it enjoys a magnificent panorama on central and eastern Sicily. Around ancient frantoises for the grapes, remains of furnaces for the fusion of copper and bronze, tombs in the chamber and, in the North, the profile of Enna with the other sacred area of the Rocca di Cerere. You descend through the village again this time by touching the Piazza della fascist foundation with the monumental obelisk and, reached the Visitor center, ends with a ring ring around the lake, place of large contingents of waterfowl and the only natural lake of inland Sicily.
