It is a circular route that starts and ends from the prestigious Hotel La Villa di Casalotto and will allow you to admire the splendid landscapes of the Barbera, Moscato and Brachetto vineyards.
What to see in Fontanile
Starting from the renowned structure "La Villa", you will immediately face a steep descent and a subsequent climb that will allow you to reach the village of Fontanile, a town famous for its wines, the Murales, but above all for its mammoth Church of San Giovanni Battista , whose dome, designed by the architect engineer Francesco Gualandi, stands out in the center of the village dominating the surrounding landscape.
Do not miss a visit to this characteristic monument whose dome is the highest in the province of Asti!
From here you can continue in the direction of Mombaruzzo enjoying a break at the Giant Bench of Fontanile, located in a splendid panoramic position.
Alice Bel Colle and its Belvedere
After the Big Bench the descent continues until you reach Mombaruzzo Station.
From here, the track will continue in the direction of Castelletto Molina.
A long but slightly uphill panoramic road will allow you to reach the splendid village of Alice Bel Colle, one of the highest municipalities in the province of Asti with its 420 meters above sea level.
Alice Bel Colle is a town of less than 800 inhabitants, mostly perched on top of a hill. Going up the steps in Piazza Guacchione it is possible to reach a panoramic viewpoint with a 360° view of the Monferrato hills: an incredible view, from Turin to Milan, from the Alps to the Ligurian Apennines. Indescribable in words.
After the obligatory stop at the viewpoint, it will be possible to continue the ride until you reach the town of Ricaldone.
What to see in Ricaldone
Once in Ricaldone it is impossible not to stop again on the belvedere at the entrance to the town to enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding vineyards.

The singer is buried in the cemetery, who died tragically in the night between 26 and 27 January 1967 during the Sanremo Festival.
Continuing the Tour you will arrive at the village of Maranzana.
Maranzana and the way back
Once in Maranzana, you cannot fail to notice a dense group of "babaci".
The latter, called in local jargon, are nothing more than fabric puppets made by the local inhabitants to repopulate the streets of the village which were emptying.
Thanks to this recent discovery, Maranzana receives many visits from national and international tourists every year.
It is also possible to organize a tasting at the local Cantina Sociale La Maranzana, to taste the typical products of the area.
Continuing along the track, you will cross the ancient village arriving in its main square.
After crossing the village, a long descent into the "Bosco delle Sorti" will allow you to reach the road at the bottom of the valley.
After a few hairpin bends uphill, a breathtaking landscape opens up: we are at the exact meeting point between the Monferrato hills and the Alessandria plain.
The landscape becomes gentler and the vineyards expand as far as the eye can see.
An (optional) detour starts from here to reach the AC Ranch, a splendid riding school that will offer you the possibility of adding a romantic horse ride to your e-bike tour.
We are located in the middle of the prestigious vineyards of Pico Maccario, easily recognizable by the colored pencils used as "head" poles for the rows.
From here, with a few pedal strokes, you can easily reach the Tere Ruse restaurant, which will delight you with excellent local delicacies.
Continuing the track we will cross the town of Mombaruzzo, a town famous for amaretti, typical local sweets.
Leaving the village, in the direction of Casalotto, a splendid swing on Monferrato will give you the opportunity to take some magical photos.
Once in the vicinity of Casalotto, before concluding the tour, we recommend a visit or tasting at the prestigious Berta Distilleries.

A day in the saddle of a pedal-assisted bike among wine, water and legends, passing through some of the most beautiful villages in Irpinia and enjoying the wonderful flat nature of Volturara Irpina, a land of legends.
This route is a loop tour that starts and finishes at the e-bike rental point in Chiusano San Domenico, which, thanks to its privileged location, is the ideal place to set out to explore one of the most fascinating areas of Irpinia.
However, if you prefer to start from the ebike rental point located at the Ciclostazione Avellino (Contrada San Lorenzo 18, Atripalda). add the AB/BA route (16.5 km) to this track to reach the bike rental point in Chiusano San Domenico.
This is a route that presents no particular difficulty and can therefore be tackled with all available types of rental e-bike: city, trekking and full suspension e-MTB.
This trail can be lengthened or shortened as desired. Therefore, feel free to contact us to let us know your time and/or fitness needs: we will be happy to customise this path so that it perfectly suits your requirements.
Let's start!
After refilling your water bottle at the Fontana Vecchia in Chiusano San Domenico, from which clear water always gushes out fresh, it is time to hit the road!
Follow the directions on the GPS track we have provided and, whenever you arrive at a point of interest, learn more about the places by reading the tips we have prepared for you: we hope you will find them interesting and that they will help you to fully enjoy your ebike excursion along the roads of Irpinia!
After about 2 km of road, you will have to turn onto State Road 400. Although it is classified as a state road, and therefore a fast road, it is in fact a road with low traffic intensity, since it is now replaced by other, more convenient roads. In any case, we advise you to be careful and pedal in the comfortable space between the continuous line that delimits the roadway (it is very wide), because some of the few vehicles that pass along it may proceed at high speed.
The road continues with a very slight incline for 5 km, you will be able to overcome the most challenging stretch of the whole day in a short time. Once you enter the junction for Castelvetere sul Calore, you will only pedal your electric bike along roads with non-existent traffic, so you can relax, enjoy the scenery, and stop to take photographs whenever you want.
Once in Castelvetere, visit the historic centre, better known as 'La Ripa'.
Leaving the village, the road continues slightly uphill towards Montemarano, the village famous for the high quality of its Aglianico wine, for the Tarantella Montemaranese and for its Carnival. After visiting the historic centre of Montemarano, turn back to the beginning of the village and take the road to Volturara and the Piana del Dragone.
Here begins a long and beautiful descent, partly wooded and therefore sheltered from the scorching sun: enjoy the road, keeping your hands firmly on the ebike's brakes. For about 13 kilometres you can hardly pedal at all. Towards the end of the descent, take care only to turn left and follow the signs for Volturara Irpina.
At the end of the descent you will have arrived in the town of Volturara Irpinia: welcome to the Piana del Dragone. Being a plateau of about 1,110 hectares, it is a popular place for cyclists in the province of Avellino. Riding an ebike and cycling here is a real pleasure. The absence of slopes, zero traffic and the beauty of the landscape will leave you breathless.
Before visiting the town of Volturara Irpina, don't forget to visit the Bocca del Dragone, a very important place from a naturalistic point of view, being the nerve centre of the most important hydrographic basin in the central south, and to learn more about the legend connected to this evocative place with the sheet we have prepared for you. There is no shortage of picnic tables and picnic areas near the Bocca del Dragone, so if you want to plan a longer stopover, this might be the right place.
This place changes profoundly depending on the seasons: if in summer it is full of pastures and cultivated gardens, in winter - when rainfall and water quantity are conspicuous - it could literally be flooded. If you find yourself visiting it during the flooding phase, you can literally cross this kind of lake, using a walkway bordered on either side by a wooden fence.
Leaving Volturara Irpina, you will find yourself pushing the pedals of your ebike along the so-called Ofantina Vecchia. After 3 km, you will reach 'Malepasso'. The name of this place dates back to the time of the Briganti, to denote its dangerousness and the real possibility of encountering some of them.
From here on, you will be immersed in lush nature, surrounded by mountains so close that you will feel as if you could touch them. The marvellous descent will give you a stupendous panorama, with Atripalda, Avellino and Mercogliano below you, with Montevergine and the Partenio Regional Park right in front of you. There is a quarry along the descent, so watch out for heavy vehicles entering and leaving the quarry that may be driving along the hairpin bends.
After the last few pedal strokes, it will not be at all difficult to reach the ebike rental point in Chiusano San Domenico. Here you will find our staff ready to welcome you back and to collect your impressions and suggestions on the experience you will have had riding your pedal-assisted bike.
Please, remember that we are at your complete disposal before, during and after your excursions on the rented ebikes. Thanks to the GPS trackers on all our pedal-assisted bikes, we can reach you quickly and accurately in the event of difficulties.
For information on routes and rental, for assistance during ebike rental you can call us on the phone (Mon 4:30 pm-8:00 pm / Tue-Sat 9:30 am -1:30 pm, 16:30 pm - 8:00 pm) or write to us on Whatsapp 24 hours a day.

The departure and ' the Bike Square rental point of Cabella Ligure. From here by continuing along the provincial 140, it comes in the vicinity of the inhabited Albera Ligure from which the Albirola Valley begins. After the iron bridge begins a small asphalted secondary road leading to the fraction of Santa Maria-Venaint. Percorrupting it comes in a suggestive borgo, with the stone houses and the seicentesco water mill in Santamaria, reachable via a steep path that continues to the pond feeding the Mulino where a pleasant area is located. Continuing on the 'ring, after a few returning, you reach Santa Maria where to make an 'interesting walk between the evocative stone houses, an ancient washroom and see the dedicated chiesette to the Madonna della Neve. Resuming the path comes to Venus, a small borough well valued by its inhabitants with floral addobbons. Here it is possible to see the Church of the Saints Matthew and Fortunato, dating back to the 9th century, built on the ruins of the ' Abbey of Venish, among the oldest monastic foundations in the area. From here you enjoy a breathtaking view on the Borbera Valley. After a few kilometres, Pallavicino and finally the castle of Borgo Adorno built in 1100 by the Spinola, now Casa Museum of the painter Clemen Parrocchetti, has been reached. From here the path is particularly panoramic. It reaches localities ' Campana and returns to the provincial road to Cantalupo Ligure, passing through the location of Pertuso, known as the starting point of the suggestive trial called the stone doors. From here you can admire a suggestive canyon, long a few kilometres and marked by a very bitter nature dominated by spectacular rock formations, unfortunately also known for sad episodes related to World War II. Before returning to Cabella Ligure it is worth climbing over the evocative iron bridge and crossing the river from which the beautiful territory of this valley between Piedmont and Liguria takes its name.

LAKE TURANO
Once on the border with Abruzzo, the GTL route turns north and heads to Sabina, towards the fourth provincial capital of the region: after Rome, Latina and Frosinone, this stage takes us to Rieti, the "geographical center of Italy". To do so, he chooses the gentler and less harsh route through the mountains, continuing to follow the Way of St. Benedict as already happened in stage 6. We climb in altitude passing through villages set in the green of the Apennine woods, Riofreddo, Vallinfreda, Orvinio, and then enter the Turano valley, where the lake of the same name was formed in 1939, following the construction of a huge dam. In fact, the track follows a flat pace and even slightly downhill as a whole, with only two small uphill climbs, offering the pleasure of pedaling through the mountains without pedaling too much. This valley is not served by train or highways, and has remained relatively quiet and safe from the large tourist flows. The river we skirt, also called Turano, gradually swells until it becomes a fjord, the southern branch of the lake: its contours are often foggy, humid and disturbing. We thus arrive at the two villages of Castel di Tora and Colle di Tora, which look at each other from the two shores of the lake, and the ruins of the castle of Antuni, piled up on a small island near the bridge that joins the two sides. After Colle di Tora there are the only slopes to face to get to the Turano dam: a few hairpin bends in the woods, and we are at the gigantic concrete wall that holds back the course of the river. It is worth a small detour to the villages of Rocca Sinibalda, where the impressive Sforza Cesarini Castle stands, originally from the eleventh century, and Posticciola, an original Roman outpost and transhumance passage. From here on it is all downhill: we lose the altitude gained on a road snubbed by traffic, to easily cover the last flat kilometers towards the Sabine capital.
a Empoli, in Val d'Arno
Tour of the ancient appian way with a small detour in the Caffarella park. The Appia Antica park includes the Caffarella valley and the Aqueduct Park. Walking along the ancient appian way, you turn right entering a branch of dirt paths and admiring the Tomb of Annia Regilla, the sacred source of Egeria water and its sacred wood in front of the ancient Church of San Urbano (not open to visitors). It does not seem to be 1 km from the center of Rome. Everything is intact and authentic. From there you take the ancient appian way, on the right the Tomb of Cecilia Metella, the circus of Maxentius, and the tomb of Romulus. Returning to Rome you can admire the church of San Sebastiano and its catacombs. After an immersive tour in the Roman countryside, we return to the Eternal City by retracing the Via Latina reaching the Circus Massimo.

The Bicycle Route Between Calanchi and Balze
The bicycle route between Balze and Calanchi passes through places where nature and history intertwine in a circular path accessible to everyone thanks to e-bikes. This itinerary takes us to discover a unique scenario, characterized by spectacular geological formations, medieval monasteries suspended between heaven and earth, and gastronomic delicacies that tell the essence of this territory.
The e-bike itinerary develops in a loop, making the experience accessible even to those who are less trained. The electric bicycle represents the ideal means to fully immerse yourself in the surrounding landscape, allowing you to appreciate every detail of these lands shaped by time and the elements. The route winds through a succession of breathtaking panoramas, alternating white roads with more adventurous paths, always accompanied by the majesty of the Balze and calanchi that dominate the horizon.
The Balze: Witnesses of an Ancient Geological History
Along the bike path, you observe the Balze which reveal themselves in all their grandeur. These steep slopes with their characteristic golden color represent a natural spectacle of rare beauty and a geological phenomenon of considerable scientific interest. Composed of sand and calcareous sandstone rocks, the Balze are the result of a grand erosive process still in progress, which continues to shape the sediments left by an ancient sea dating back 2.5 million years.
The particular conformation of these geological formations creates plays of light and shadow that reach their peak during the twilight hours, when the setting sun's rays enhance their golden tones, offering a visual spectacle of extraordinary beauty. Pedaling along the route, you will find yourself immersed in an almost lunar landscape, where time seems to have stopped, allowing you to virtually travel back millions of years.
The Calanchi: Natural Sculptures with Wild Charm
In stark contrast to the golden Balze, the calanchi represent another fascinating chapter of this cycling adventure. Characterized by steep southern slopes with pointed crests that shine white under the sun, the calanchi offer a scenario of wild beauty. These clay formations, shaped by the erosion of rainwater, create a surreal landscape that extends as far as the eye can see toward the sea.
The electric bicycle proves to be the perfect means to explore these areas, allowing you to reach panoramic points otherwise inaccessible, from which to admire the breadth and majesty of these natural formations. The gentler slopes, less subject to erosion, host lush cereal crops, creating an evocative chromatic contrast with the white calanchi surrounding them.
The Badia: A Millennium of History Suspended Between Heaven and Earth
A culminating point of the bike tour is represented by the visit to the imposing Badia, a Camaldolese monastery from the medieval era that seems to defy the laws of nature. Perched on the edge of a precipice, this extraordinary building has resisted for about a millennium the inexorable advance of the Balze chasm, creating an image of rare suggestion.
The contrast between man's work and the force of nature reaches its symbolic apex here: the millennial solidity of the monastic structure seems to engage in a silent battle against the unstoppable erosive process that continues to shape the surrounding landscape. The Badia not only represents a monument of exceptional architectural value, but also embodies a place rich in fascination and mystery, where medieval spirituality merges with the dramatic nature of the natural landscape.
San Cipriano: A Window on the Calanchi
The bike path reaches, via a white road, a privileged observation point near the small church of San Cipriano. From this strategic position, you can admire in all its extension the characteristic calanchi landscape of Volterra, distinguished by formations of considerable size, both in length and height.
This natural belvedere offers the opportunity to take memorable photographs and enjoy a moment of contemplation in front of a scenario that seems to have come out of a painting. The small church, with its architectural simplicity, integrates perfectly into the surrounding landscape, adding a further element of cultural interest to the experience.
The Pecorino delle Balze Volterrane DOP: A Gastronomic Treasure
The e-bike tour crosses a hilly territory rich not only in natural and historical beauties, but also in gastronomic excellences. In these hills, the prestigious Pecorino delle Balze Volterrane DOP is produced, a typical cheese that encapsulates the essence of this unique land.
The peculiarity of this cheese lies in the use of vegetable rennet extracted from the wild thistle, a plant that grows spontaneously in local pastures. This production technique, handed down from generation to generation, gives the pecorino a distinctive and unmistakable flavor, which tells the story and traditions of these hills. During the route, there will be opportunities to stop at small farms to taste this product of excellence, accompanied by other local typical products.
Art that Dialogues with the Landscape: The Sculptures of Mauro Staccioli
On the bike following the dirt path called "Itinerary of Balze and Calanchi," the tour leads to the discovery of environmental sculptures created by the artist Mauro Staccioli. These extraordinary works of land art represent a profound dialogue between human creativity and the natural environment, interpreting the essence of the "places of experience" so dear to the artist.
The installations harmoniously integrate into the landscape, framing with essential geometric forms the exciting panorama of balze, calanchi, and hills exposed to the wind, with Volterra majestically dominating the horizon. The encounter with these contemporary works of art further enriches the bicycle tour experience, adding a cultural dimension to the pleasure of physical activity and immersion in nature.
