🗺️ The Stages of the Journey

1. Departure from the Pieve San Biagio Farmhouse and ascent to Petriolo

We begin at the Pieve San Biagio farmhouse, heading east through the Macerata countryside. The route begins a gentle climb toward Petriolo, a characteristic medieval village nestled on a hilltop. Here, you can stroll through the narrow streets of the historic center, admire the ancient castle walls, and enjoy the first panoramic views of the Fiastra Valley.

The initial stretch and the climb lead towards the village of Petriolo, rich in history and artistic-religious treasures:

Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy: An important place of worship and devotion in the town.
Civic Tower: A distinctive architectural element in the heart of the village.
Museum of Processional Wood and Icons: A precious collection that bears witness to the artisan tradition and local religious celebrations.

2. From Petriolo, descend along scenic, low-traffic country roads to reach the Abbadia di Fiastra Nature Reserve. Here, you can stop to admire the majestic Cistercian Abbey of Chiaravalle di Fiastra and relax along the shores of Lake Le Vene, surrounded by ancient woodland.

After leaving the Reserve, the route continues uphill towards Urbisaglia, crossing the important Urbs Salvia Archaeological Park. On your e-bike, you'll cycle past extraordinary Roman monuments such as the Water Tower, the Theater, and the Amphitheater. Once at the top of the town, the Rocca di Urbisaglia, a 16th-century fortress with breathtaking views of the Sibillini Mountains, is definitely worth a visit.

4. The Rancia Castle and the Return to Pieve San Biagio
🏰 Castello della Rancia: An imposing 13th-century castle located near Tolentino, historically used as a grange (fortified agricultural warehouse) and the scene of important battles.
From the fortress, you descend toward the valley floor to reach the evocative Castello della Rancia, an imposing medieval structure that is a symbol of the area. From here, you follow relaxing country roads surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, completing the loop, comfortably returning to the Pieve San Biagio Agriturismo.

In Petriolo: Take advantage of your stop in the village to taste local cured meats (such as the classic Ciauscolo PGI) or make a quick stop at the bar in the village square for a coffee with a view.
At the Riserva di Fiastra: Ideal for a tasty lunch with traditional dishes.
