Information

Description

The castle of Cherasco was built in 1348 by Luchino Visconti, Lord of Milan. Its origin dates back to the very foundation of the town of Cherasco. It was an imposing square-shaped building, with towers at the four corners and a smaller one at the entrance with a drawbridge. In the early 20th century the castle underwent a complete reconstruction, above all in the upper parts and in the towers, but the essential structure of today’s castle is the original one.

The castle is located on the edge of the plateau in a naturally protected area. It was defended on three sides, from the courses of the Stura di Demonte and Tanaro rivers which meet here. The castle is situated on the historic avenue of the Napoleonic plane trees from where you can enjoy the magnificent view of the hills of Novello, La Morra and Vergne. The castle is a private property and the interior is not open to visitors.
