The Albaycin is the old Arab district. It comprises approximately the area between the Alhambra hill, the hill of San Cristobal, the Sacromonte abbey and Elvira.
It is characterised by small narrow streets, an intricate network with its traditional houses (carmenes) and public baths, like the Banuelo.
In 1994, the Albaicín was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
It worths a visit, starting from Carrera del Darro, one of the most scenic walks in Granada, along the Darro river.
